Crimping Corner Fittings: Choosing the Right Press and Die

In aluminium joinery, the quality of a corner does not depend only on the fitting: it also depends on how it is assembled. For fittings secured by crimping, the press and die matter as much as the part itself.

Why each series needs its own die

Every fitting series has its own geometry: pin diameter and position, width, pitch. The die is designed for that exact geometry, so the joint is tight, aligned and repeatable part after part. That is why Estoal product pages state the matching die reference: for example, the T4 series is assembled with the PA-T4/12 die.

Using a die that does not match the series can lead to loose joints, marks on the profile or out-of-square corners.

How to choose the press

  • Identify the series you use most: the press must accept their dies.
  • Production volume: on long runs, a dedicated workshop press saves time and ensures consistency.
  • Die changeover: if you work with several series, consider how easy it is to switch dies.
  • Service and spare parts: choose a manufacturer that supplies spares to keep the press running for years.

Basic maintenance

Keep the die free of aluminium swarf, regularly check wear on the parts in contact with the fitting and replace them before they affect joint quality. Our punch presses and accessories section lists presses and spare parts.
